Food Companies DON’T CARE About You

The sooner you realize this the better. Food companies are not interested in your health. They are interested in making money. Here are 10 dangerous ingredients to look out for:

1.Sodium Nitrate:

Sodium Nitrate is an additive used as a preservative. It is found in deli meats, hot dogs, bacon and other processed meats. Studies have linked sodium nitrate to heart disease, diabetes, cancer, neurological conditions, and gastrointestinal problems. If you eat meat, stick to lean fresh meats and limit or steer clear of meats containing sodium nitrate.

2. Azodicarbonamide:

Azodicarbonamide is an industrial chemical that is used to make rubber and synthetic leather. It makes things foamy, so somewhere along the way, someone thought it was a good idea to add it to bread to make is spongy! It is also used to whiten cereal flour. While the FDA claims that there is insufficient research to determine harm from exposure to this chemical in food, it has been banned in Europe and Australia. The World Health Organization and the CDC list respiratory issues, and skin and eye irritation warnings, and say not to ingest. Other sources associate ingesting this chemical with damaging hormone and immune function.

3. High fructose corn syrup:

Despite to corn industries aggressive campaign to convince us otherwise, high fructose corn syrup is NOT a natural food – it is highly processed. It is also not the same a natural sugar and it is not processed by the body in the same manner. Given that, coupled with the high quantities of high fructose corn syrup hidden in our food, it creates numerous health risks. High fructose corn syrup is linked to obesity, type II diabetes, high blood pressure, liver disease, and heart disease. Food manufacturers know consumers are looking for it on ingredient labels, so many now list it as fructose or fructose syrup. It’s the same dangerous ingredient, same high quantities, just a deceptive new name.

4. BHT (butyl hydroxytoluene)

Butyl hydroxytoluene (BHT) is a synthetic compound used as a preservative in foods and cosmetics. It slows the natural oxidation process, keeping foods and cosmetics from going bad. Interestingly, if you read the MSDS (Materia Safety Data Sheet) for this chemical, it clearly identifies it as a toxic substance. But it is in our food! Studies have linked BHT to cancer in animals. “They” say that low doses are fine, whereas high doses are not, however BHT is in a ton of food products, so how do you determine high vs. low doses? And is there a cumulative effect?

5. Enriched flour:

Essentially, enriched flour is flour that has been chemically and mechanically stripped of all its fiber and nutrients, and then has a small fraction of those nutrients artificially replaced. This leaves you with a product with virtually no nutritional value whatsoever. Due to the highly processed and depleted state, foods made with enriched flour are not processed in the same manner by your body. They immediately change into sugar and cause blood sugar and insulin spikes. This leads to numerous health risks, including increased risk for type 2 diabetes, damage to blood vessels, high blood pressure and increased risk for certain cancers. You may be accustomed to the texture and taste of white breads and flours, but do your health a favor and switch it up to true whole grains.

6. Soybean oil:

The soybean has commonly been viewed as a healthy food and is a popular replacement for animal protein. Unfortunately, the soybean and soybean oil are also linked to many health conditions. One major problem is that the bean is commonly mass produced with lots of carcinogenic pesticides and genetically modified. Soy and soybean oil are linked to inflammation, digestive issues, allergies, malabsorption of nutrients and protein. The oil is also partially hydrogenated, thus a trans-fat, which you know poses numerous health risks. If you choose soy, be sure to find non-GMO, organic soy.

7. MSG

MSG is a flavor enhancer that is added to many foods in the US. Unless you have been living under a rock for the past few decades, you have heard that MSG is bad for your health. It is linked to obesity, headaches, eye damage, nausea and other health problems. There are conflicting studies about short and long-term effects of MSG, however sensitivities are very common. With all the unknowns and the evidence toward health risks, you’re better of eliminating it from your diet.

8. Yellow #5 (tartrazine):

Yellow #5 is a food additive included in many foods to give it a yellow coloring. Studies have linked this additive to a number of health considerations. These include allergic reactions, hyperactivity, low sperm count, and cancer risks. Pay attention to this and other food coloring additives as many of them are linked to health concerns.

9. Propylene glycol alginate:

Propylene glycol is a commonly used additive to foods, also a primary ingredient to antifreeze. Research studies around this food additive have produced inconsistent findings related to health risks. Some studies have shown risks associated with neurological issues, kidney and liver disease, and respiratory and cardiovascular disease. Due to the conflicting studies, there is no conclusive evidence, however is it really worth taking the risk while the researchers figure it out?

10. Polysorbate 60:

Polysorbate 60 is commonly used as a thickener in foods and cosmetics. While there is not a lot of information available on this chemical compound, its ingredients are linked to carcinogens and fertility issues.

and you know what I replied?

Yes, I’ll take these freaking prescriptions, but I’ll flush them right down the toilet, because there’s no way in the world that I’ll ever put that crap into my system.

And as stupid as my decision may have been, I’m glad I made it.

A few short weeks later, tests showed that my heart was almost completely cleared of plaque!

I was kicking ass in the gym, putting boys half my age to shame. I had this drive that I didn’t remember since college.

Best of all, I was feeling great having such fantastic health and knowing that I didn’t have to suffer the side effects of these dangerous prescription medications.

Now, I’ll tell you exactly how I did this in a second, but first let me warn you about two common myths regarding cholesterol and heart attack and stroke:

myth #1 – LDL (Bad Cholesterol) is the cause of plaque buildup.

Not true.

In 2009, researchers at the University of California in Los Angeles [1] analyzed the medical statistics of 136,905 heart attack patients from 541 hospitals across the U.S.

what they found was shocking.

Incredibly, 75% of those who suffered a heart attack had an LDL cholesterol score below 130 mg/dl (labeled as acceptable), and 50% had a score below 100 mg/dl (labeled as very healthy.)

Only 25% of those who suffered a heart attack actually had high cholesterol.

Similar findings have been proven in repeated studies before and since.

So there must be another cause other than a bad LDL level, and I’ll tell you in a second what that is.

myth #2 – Lowering your cholesterol with drugs will prevent heart attack.

A new review research from Massachusetts Institute of Technology [2] concluded that no reliable study has ever proven that statins prevent deaths.

What’s more, this research shows that every single cholesterol hype-study has been purposely misleading.

The most drastic proof of the ineffectiveness of statins, however, comes from a study published in 2008 in the New England Journal of Medicine [3].

The researchers showed that treatment with two statins lowered cholesterol much more than treatment with one statin alone.

Good so far for the pharmaceutical industry.

but then comes the bombshell . . .

Now you see that John’s oxidized cholesterol level is actually 80, whereas Pete’s oxidized level is only 10.

This may all sound a little complicated. Just think about it as if John is driving a small city car that is 80% rusted while Pete has a big SUV that is only 5% rusted.

which one do you think is going to break down sooner?

Yes, John’s of course.

This explains why some people have plaque buildup and heart attacks with their LDL at 100 while others have healthy hearts even if their LDL measures 200.

Something happened three years ago, that I could’ve never imagined as even possible before then.

My ab muscles and bicep veins became visible.

As someone who had struggled with his weight since childhood, these things just didn’t seem to be in my reality. You see, I exercised regularly and probably ate healthier than most and yet I never seem to see any results. I attributed this to “bad genetics”. That is, until three years ago.

And you know what’s perhaps even more impressive? The fifty pounds I lost never came back.

how I lost 50 pounds in 1 month

Three years ago, something traumatic happened and caused me to completely lose my appetite for about 2 weeks. I’d have my morning cup of coffee and just pace around my condo while drinking it, my mind racing. Finally, by around 11am, I’d have a couple of eggs and maybe a piece of breakfast meat. Dinner would be whatever I felt like, without going overboard on portions or carbs.

Just two weeks of that and my clothes were already significantly looser. I month in and I went from a tight 36″ waist to a loose 31″ waist

This’s when I started to notice my abs. It sounds lame, but I actually spent hours looking at myself in the mirror, because I couldn’t believe it was real. In fact, part of me was scared shitless that I was just going to put the weight right back on, as soon as my appetite returned.

I was determined to not let this happen. It turns out that seeing tangible results can reveal an inner resolve you didn’t know you had!

how I kept the weight off

Three years later, I can still see my muscles. I’m still a size 31″ waist.

There’s no doubt that daily exercise is a big factor in my ongoing success. I do cross-fit and/or yoga pretty much every day. Furthermore, most of what I like to do for fun is active.

That said, I lost the weight and saw my abs BEFORE I started doing cross-fit or yoga.

In fact, I’ve gone to the gym and been active my whole adult life and never saw much change. That’s why I attribute my success mostly to diet.

Let’s get into some light theory. When you wake up, your body is in fat-burning mode, since you haven’t eaten for 8 or more hours. However, as soon as you eat carbs, your body exits fat burning mode. Therefore, I wanted to delay eating carbs as long as possible.

Furthermore, there are reasons to believe certain carbs are worse than others. I’m not going to go down that rabbit hole here, but suffice to say I decided to stay away from grains and sugars as much as possible, while allowing myself limited amounts of starchy root vegetables and fruits.

So given these principles, it would seem that perhaps breakfast IS the most important meal of the day.

You’ll recall from my story above, that coffee for breakfast was what seemingly started it all for me. I had not yet heard of intermittent fasting at the time, but was essentially practicing it since I didn’t eat until around 11am.

As my appetite returned, I started tweaking this central component of my diet so that I’m now adding the following three ingredients to my Puerto Rican coffee every morning:

  • heavy cream – has zero carbs (sugars) unlike most other creamers
